Tinos . In this first page about Tinos Island, I am going to introduce to you many of the beautiful aspects of this wonderful island.

Satelite view of Tinos island. Another satelite view of the island. The next photo depicts the island of Tinos as it was taken from a satelite!!! (Photo Source). In the next one, you can see Tinos in a satelite photo taken from Nasa. You can also make out the islands of Mykonos -at the bottom-, Syros -at the left of Tinos- and a part of Andros -at the top- (Photo Source).
You can see in the next photo the Chora of Tinos as it looks like from the air. The Holy Church is visible enough at the northern part of the town. One can also see the football ground at the bottom of the picture and the two main port piers, the new one at the far left and the old one at the center of the photograph. The photo was taken by the Thessaloniki Aeroclub (Photo Source). Chora from the air.
Here, in Greece, Tinos is actually known as the "Holy Island" or the "Island of the Holy Mother", because of the existence of the Holy Church of Panagia. You can see it in the next photo. On August 15th, when the celebration of the Holy Mother takes place, the capital of the island, Chora or Tinos, becomes so crowded that one thinks that is going to be sinked (!). The Holy Church.
The capital of Tinos. The specific photo depicts the capital of the island, Chora -or Tinos-. There are many interesting places apart from the holy church, such as some really nice bars -not many of course- and cafes. Additionally, there is the archeological museum of Tinos, which is definetely worth seeing.
Generally, Chora depends heavily on the Church and the people don't care very much about tourism.
Sunset on Tinos. This is a sunset looking at it form the port of Chora. Well, it is not so marvellous as the one on Santorini, but it still keeps you dreaming... After all, it is a sunset of the Cyclades.
Here is one of the most representative features of Tinos. This building is called "peristerionas" -it is like a pigeon 'house'- and there are many of these all over the island. They were builded by Venetians, conquerors of Tinos during the 1600's. Peristerionas.
Well, here is another very familiar to many people feature of the island, the windmill. As it is logical, there are unnumbered windmills on the island of winds, but unfortunately most of them are totally dilapidated. Windmill.
The Pahia Ammos beach. Tinos has some of the best beaches in Cyclades and the beach of Pahia Ammos is one of them. The advantage of this beach is that no road leads to it directly -only a few hundreds meters away-, so not many people relish that deserted beach. An interesting feature of it is a big sand hill on the north-eastern part.
One of the most known features of Tinos is the village of Volax and especially its valley. A rare geological phenomenon took place there thousands of years ago. Scientists cannot explain its cause and only make theories such as a volcanic explosions or meteorites. As you can make out from the next picture all the valley that surrounds the village is full of rounded rocks. The scenery is totally different not only from the rest of the island, but also the rest of Greece! The village of Volax.
Who said that there aren't any beautiful mountains on Tinos? In my opinion these two pictures will change your mind. In the first one you can see the highest peak of Tinos, Tsiknias. It is about 750 meters high and is located on the north-eastern part of Tinos, just a few kilometers far from Pahia Ammos beach. The view from up there is magnificent and a unique experience.
In the next picture you are able to see the second higher peak of Tsiknias as it was photographed from the highest one.
Tsiknias mountain. Nice view...
